Joel Flom has spent the last ten years helping Fortune 100 retailers, educational institutions, software development companies and SMEs interact with their customers and employees. Currently Joel is Managing Director for Elavision Pty Ltd, an interaction design consultancy based in Brisbane that specialises in making digital products, services and systems work for real people (i.e. useful, then usable).

Prior to Elavision, Joel spent five years in the US as an Information Architect for Best Buy and was responsible for both the customer-facing ecommerce site and internal customer support applications. Joel had the fortunate opportunity to work with some of the industry’s top usability firms (UIE, Sachs Insights, Dray & Associates) conducting directed and non-directed usability labs, ethnographic research and rapid prototyping.

Prior to Best Buy, Joel worked for NextEd (Australia) as VP Web Publishing where he managed courseware designers and lead the design of an continuous publishing system for NextEd’s client base.

Notable projects include Apple Computer Australia, Best Buy, Global University Alliance, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Kirra Surf, George Washington University (US) and Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter. Joel has worked in the US, Australia, New Zealand, China, United Kingdom and Canada.

Joel donates his time and advice to St Vincent de Paul.

Joel is an avid mountain biker (XC endurance and sprint events) and does everything possible to get himself and his family outside.
